GET TO KNOW US
Welcome to Ur‐Plants Inc! We offer a unique perspective into landscape design and place making. Our expert design and build team specializes in creating truly remarkable outdoor spaces. We are versatile in our approach to your landscape management needs and we therefore incorporate place making practice in all of our projects.
With three decades in the horticulture and landscape design business, our experience allows us to execute your residential, industrial or commercial project needs in a timely manner with surgical attention to detail.
HOW WE WORK
For us to better appreciate your landscape design objectives, we conduct consultations with clients on site. Once a clear vision has been established, one of our talented and experienced designers will produce a preliminary sketch design, which we further tailor to your requirements.
Large scale projects will naturally require more time, consultation and planning, with some requiring building permits. These more complex landscaping and place making developments typically involve, extensive gardening, bridges, swimming pools, waterfalls, elaborate statues, structures and retaining walls.
DESIGNING WITH NATURE
Architecture and landscaping meet at an interesting place referred to as place making. By definition, place making requires deep understanding of the built settlement in the landscape, the structure of settlement, the district, the street and the built structures. We engage all design consultants at the conceptual stages of any project to ensure that the client and design team have a social understanding of the overall design parameters of the project. Ultimately, landscape design adds the final touches to well designed projects and as such, we are keen to ensure that all communication channels are properly maintained amongst the project team throughout project development.
PLACE MAKING
The art of place making arises from the understanding of physical and human geography, the site’s history and morphology of past uses, building typology, the site’s owners and the natural landscape. This is the science of place making.
We define the key components of place making to be:
- Regional Identity- where we identify common characteristics of the area
- Linkages to surroundings- where we identify settlement characteristics (Linear/ grid, etc)
- Local Character – where we establish local uniqueness, considering not only the form or value created by how these places are used.
- Morphology- where we define the image of the local morphology (Historic routes, building heights and massing, local vernacular, block patterns) and use this research to inform the creation of appropriate design forms
- Natural Features- where we identify the ecological or physical characteristics that give uniqueness to the site.
- Socio-economic characters-where we consider the relevance of demographics or events of cultural importance which can inform the design process.
Once the consultation with the client is complete, we will produce the necessary drawings to guide the development process. We will then agree and sign off on the cost and customizations of the project, with construction work beginning immediately afterwards.
